I’ll have blankets, witch hats, ice dyed jackets and sweaters, and a handful of batik skirts.

Here’s a “found object” printed witch hat I thought would be a good use of my limited time. Thanks to the hens for molting and supplying feathers

A couple more hats …

Rosie and Ezri, Hospice Hearts fosters, livesin my studio and would like you to adopt them.

Watch this little girl jump!

If you’re interested in adopting the batik wall piece behind Ezri, come to Art in the Garden!

Fresh from the dye!

Blankies for Grown-ups

IDK about you, but this feels like perfect napping weather. Sometimes it’s just nice to wrap up in something soft and cozy, take a breath, and block out the bullshit of the world.

I’ve loved dyeing these blankets—watching the colors bloom into something soft, useful, and comforting. It feels strange to be offering them at a time when the future feels uncertain, but maybe that’s exactly when a blanket matters most.

Due to idiot tariffs and idiots and horrible humans, these are the last of my hand-dyed Hooey blankets for the foreseeable future.

Aprons!

Hand-Dyed Batik Crossback Apron

This pinafore-style apron is made from a hand-dyed batik linen/rayon blend with a soft but durable weight. Designed in a crossback style, it slips on easily over your head—no ties needed.

Wear it as a functional apron in the studio or kitchen, or layer it over clothing as a statement piece. Two roomy pockets keep tools and essentials close at hand.

Fit Notes

  • This is not a dress—it has an open back.
  • Every body wears it differently depending on height, bust, and hips, so length and coverage can vary.

Care

  • Pre-washed and dryer dried; it will not shrink.
  • Wash cold, gentle cycle (or hand wash) separately.
  • Line dry or tumble dry on cool.
  • Iron on linen setting as needed.

Price: $200 (tax included)

About Hooey Batiks
All of my designs are original, and each dye bath produces its own colors and combinations. No two aprons are ever the same, making this a true one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art.

This Apron:

This particular apron measures about 43 inches in length with two 9-inch pockets. It has a comfortable fit best for XL through plus sizes, though the exact look will vary with each body shape.

3 aprons in progress

I’m just putting these here so I don’t confuse myself with the next apron that looks a lot like the first apron! But, these 3 aprons will be ready for Art in the Garden, September 6-7. 1740 Grove, Glenview IL

This particular apron measures about 39 inches in length with two 9-inch pockets. It has a comfortable fit best for L through XL sizes, though the exact look will vary with each body shape.

The Daily Hooey?

What’s Up?

Well, here we are. I’ve been meaning to use this space for ages, and I’ve finally decided it’s time. Think of this as my studio journal — a place where I’ll share new work, progress shots, experiments, and the occasional cameo from the cats, foster cats, or hens.

I’ll also post items I have for sale. No fancy shopping cart here — just old-fashioned “send me a message” if you see something you like. I’ll include photos, dimensions, and prices so you can get the details.

How to Order
If something catches your eye:

  • Send me a message with the item you want and your mailing address.
  • I’ll get back to you with the total including tax and shipping, and payment info.
  • Local folks: I can do porch pick up or drop off if you’re on my errands route. Or I can bring it along to an art show if you’re planning to come by.

That’s the plan! Let’s see if I can figure out this whole “blogging” thing. Stick around for art, process, and plenty of studio shenanigans.

Witch Hats!

Witch Hats! And Learning Curves

After seeing a few TikToks of adorable quilted witch hats, I decided to give the project a try. (There are free tutorials and downloadable patterns out there if you’d like to make your own!)

I’m learning a lot in the process – mostly about interfacing and patience. This first round of hats turned out fun but not perfect: some are a little floppy, the brims aren’t as stiff as I’d like, and I’ve been too lazy to see what a little starch and an iron might do.

Materials
The fabrics are linen, cotton, or a linen-rayon blend. All of them are my hand-dyed fabrics, except for the pink and green hats.

Sizing
This is tricky! My own head measures 21 inches, but the seam where the crown meets the brim varies. I’d say these hats will work best for head circumferences in the 20–22 inch range. Any smaller or larger, and you’ll definitely want to try one on.

Here are the measured circumferences (from the inside seam) of the current batch:

  • Cat: 27 inches
  • Eye: 26.5 inches
  • Newt: 28 inches
  • Wicked: 29 inches
  • Check (reserved for Catherine): 29 inches

Pricing

  • Hand-dyed Hooey hats: $100 + tax and shipping
  • Wicked: $75 + tax and shipping
(Prices may go up once I get the kinks worked out and upgrade the interfacing!)

Learning curves abound, but I’m having fun with these. If this page allows comments, feel free to leave a question below—I’ll do my best to answer.
